University College of the North (UCN), Manitoba's newest post secondary educational institution located in northern Manitoba is committed to meeting the educational needs of all of our students. With two main campuses (The Pas and Thompson) and twelve regional centres throughout northern Manitoba, UCN provides quality education in the north. The Position: UCN is seeking an outstanding and experienced leader to serve as Dean of the Faculty of Business for a five-year term. The Dean will have a strong background and experience in management and in business, including experience with distributed learning and community-based education. The incumbent will have experience, knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and northern Manitoba cultures or be able to transfer knowledge gained in another Aboriginal/northern setting to UCN. The successful candidate will provide leadership and management for all activities related to the Faculty of Business.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. or Masters in Business, Commerce or a related field or hold a senior professional designation in a business-related area. Several years of management experience in a post-secondary setting or related environment is required, as is experience building strategic direction and partnerships with governments, Aboriginal community leaders, post-secondary educational institutions and other key individuals and groups. Demonstrated competence in teaching scholarly activity and a commitment to service are essential. Leadership in program planning and implementation, as well as experience with managing students, staff and budgets in a multi-site environment is required. Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, leadership, problem solving and decision-making skills are required. The individual must have the ability to use current technology effectively. Crucial to this position is a demonstrated ability to understand diversity, cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities. Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures is essential. The ability to speak an Aboriginal language is an asset.
